Community
Though
the Performance Institute focuses on the physical aspect of health
and fitness, we also recognize that true health can only be achieved
with a dynamic interaction among mental, social, spiritual, and
physical aspects of the individual.
On
a day to day basis we push our clients both mentally and physically
with ever changing drills that challenge the body as much as the
mind. In addition, the group training atmosphere and staff at the
Performance Institute ensure a fun, social and inspired environment
that makes clients want to be here.
The
"PI" gym has become the "Happy Place" in my life."

In
addition to the day to day "community" created at the Performance
Institute, increasingly, we are hosting family and client focused
events that further add to the inspirational quality
of our training centre. As much as possible we have our clients
involved in giving us ideas as to how to run our special events.
Special
Events at The Performance Institute:
4th Annual Train the Trainer
Canadian Cancer
Society Fundraiser
With
the concerted effort of trainers, clients and their families, and
volunteers, the Performance Institute raised over
$9000 for
the Cancer Society during their fun-filled and awe-inspiring TRAIN
the TRAINER event.
Burnaby
, BC, CANADA - We enjoyed another successful year at the Performance
Institute's 4 th Annual TRAIN THE TRAINER Canadian Cancer Society
Fundraiser, June 10 th 2007. The event was run in conjunction with
the Canlan, Burnaby 8-Rinks Open House.
With
the concerted effort of volunteers, clients and trainers, we raised
over $9000 for the Cancer Society. All money raised will be used
in support of the society's mission to eradicate cancer and to enhance
the lives of those living with the disease.
The
event encompassed a range of different activities that appealed
to both clients and their families. Events included wheelchair basketball,
a Cybex bike challenge, soccer juggling and of course, the opportunity
for clients to "payback" their trainers for all the physical "punishment"
they'd endured. Participants also had the chance sample the Runner's
Den skills of foot analysis and custom shoe fittings.
The
show of kindness by all participants in this event was amazing.
A special thank you to our sponsors; MBNA Canada, Body Plus, Active
Kinetics, Sean Richardson Golf Pro, The Stick, Runner's Den, Vancouver
Whitecaps, Starbucks, Jan K Overwheel, Choices, Yaletown Yoga, Sport
chec, and all support staff.
Plans
are already underway for 'Train the Trainer 2008'. We look forward
to meeting and exceeding our goals. Keep a look out for next year's
dates, to ensure you don't miss out. We hope that once again people
will join us to make cancer history.
Thanks
again for your generous support.

EXTREME
FITNESS CHALLENGE
Another
successful "first" for the Performance Institute occurred in July
at our "Extreme Fitness Challenge." This unique event combined river
rafting, outdoor-oriented strength and conditioning and boxing work-outs
as well as team building initiative challenges designed to push
both the individual and team to their individual and combined limits.
Even
we were surprised by the success of this event! We have no doubt
that this will become an annual favorite retreat of many regular
and new Performance Institute clients.
"The
camp positively impacted not only my physical self but my mental,
emotional, and social side as well..I had
a blast. As I said previously, it was more challenging than I thought
it would be and more fun than I ever imagined. I was quite nervous
before I
came because my fitness level is lower than my husbands but the
activities
were so varied, the challenges rewarding, and the group/instructors
so tight
and complementary that I was truly sad to leave and have been thinking
about
it all week!" Extreme Fitness Challenge Participant, Tracy Hull
